For our second Teacher Tuesday Spotlight we want to focus our spotlight on one of our dedicated, passionate educators, 6th grade Math teacher Katherine Gable. In addition to teaching 6th grade math Ms. Gable also oversees the school yearbook, helps with the school social media accounts, and takes photos to capture the many events and activities happening at HMS.

Mrs. Mangrum is a wonderful person, an integral part of our Harris Family and we are blessed to have her at HMS.

For our #TeacherSpotlight today we want to shine our light on one of our hardest working individuals, Mr. Brandon Hatcher.
 
Mr. Hatcher is the head of our wonderful Special Education department at Harris Middle School. Mr. Hatcher is willing to help anyone in need, even though he has a million things going on each day. While not at school he likes to play video games and Magic the Gathering. He enjoys Italian food, would like to travel to Russia, learn Spanish, and if he could meet anyone it would be Mr. Fred Rogers.

For our #TuesdayTeacherSpotlight we are going to shine our spotlight on another of our hard working staff members, Mrs. Audra Alumbaugh!
 
Mrs. Alumbaugh is a member of our excellent Special Education department here at Harris Middle School. Mrs. Alumbaugh is always quick to help when asked and is a valuable member of our HMS family. Speaking of family, Mrs. Alumbaugh is married to Mr. Paul Alumbaugh, our 2023-2024 HMS Teacher of the Year from last year. They both help make HMS a better place to be. When not at school, Mrs. Alumbaugh enjoys reading and thrift shopping. Her favorite kinds of cuisine are Creole and Italian. She would love to go to Italy and would love to learn every language she could.

For our #TeacherSpotlight today we shine our light on one of our amazing assistants here at Harris Middle School, Mrs. Carmen Breedlove. Mrs. Breedlove has been an impactful member of our HMS Family for many years and she is always one of the first to volunteer to help in area of need.
 
Mrs. Breedlove enjoys Mexican food, hanging out on the patio or by the pool with friends and family, and has 3 dogs. One day she would like to go to Hawaii and her favorite book is the Bible.

For our Tuesday Teacher Spotlight today, we shine our light on one of the fantastic members of our outstanding English as a Second Language department at Harris Middle School, Mrs. Tania Zarate!
 
Mrs. Zarate started her time here at HMS as our music teacher but this year she has made the transition to teaching in our ESL department. Mrs. Zarate always has a smile on her face and the students adore her. Among the many things that Mrs. Zarate helps with at HMS is our HMS Student Council.
 
Mrs. Zarate loves Mexican cuisine, reading, and tennis. If she could go anywhere it would be France, with a detour to Alaska.

For our HMS Teacher Spotlight today we shine our light on the fabulous Ms. Rosa Martin who serves as our most excellent translator and as one of our outstanding Family Resource Liaisons at Harris Middle School.
 
Ms. Rosa is almost always found with a smile on her face and a kind word to say. Ms. Rosa is one of the greatest assets that we have here at HMS. From translating for untold numbers of people each day, to helping students, to answering questions for parents, and so much more, we could not make it through our day without Ms. Rosa.
 
Ms. Rosa would love to travel to Hawaii one day, enjoys pasta, and played soccer in school. For her superpower she wishes to be able to translate any language. Her favorite subject is science and she would love to meet Jesus.

For our Tuesday Teacher Spotlight today, we want to shine our light on the man who has been on the 6th grade team at Harris Middle School longer than anyone currently at HMS, Mr. Phillip McConnell.
 
Mr. McConnell teaches 6th grade World History/Social Studies at HMS and this year took on a new class, teaching Computer Science. Mr. McConnell also serves as the announcer for Harris Middle School Football games, helps coordinate the HMS Students of the Week program, takes care of the HMS website, helps with HMS social media, and more.
 
Mr. McConnell is a huge wrestling fan. He also loves Star Wars and Marvel. He loves to play video games and his favorite games series is the Assassin's Creed series. He is the proud parent of a two daughters, Chloe and Kirstin, and just recently celebrated 20 years of marriage to his wife, Britney.
 
Let's hear it for the "voice of the Eagles", Mr. Phillip McConnell. Enjoy your time in the HMS Teacher Spotlight, Mr. McConnell!

Today our Harris Middle School Teacher Spotlight shines on one of the newest members of our HMS family, Ms. Emma Norris, who teaches 8th Grade English Language Arts at HMS.
 
Ms. Norris is originally from Michigan but now resides here in Shelbyville, TN. She loves video games, softball,reading, and watching movies. She has two cats and would one day love to visit Sydney, Australia. If she had to pick a song as a classroom theme she would go with the classic hit from the year 2000, "With Arms Wide Open" by Creed.

For our first Harris Middle School Teacher Spotlight this week we are taking a look at one of the vital parts of our school, Mrs. Jackie Bowman! Mrs. Bowman is one of our most dedicated and caring staff members and serves as the bookkeeper for HMS.
 
Mrs. Bowman hails from Murfreesboro, Tennessee, loves to sing(she has an amazing voice by the way), and when she was a student she was in the marching band, choir, and in drama.
 
Mrs. Bowman would love to travel to Europe or Australia one day, loves both Italian food and Mexican food, and if she could meet someone famous it would be Jesus.
 
Mrs. Bowman got to perform at Carnegie Hall in New York City as junior in high school and also got to travel to Pearl Harbor, Hawaii as a senior in high school.

When you look up school spirit in the dictionary you may very well find a picture of Mrs. Webb! Mrs. Webb has as much, perhaps more, school spirit as any one person you will ever meet. Mrs. Webb loves to participate in dress up days at school and is always quick to bring a smile or a laugh to whomever she encounters.
 
Mrs. Webb calls Shelbyville her hometown, she loves either Chinese or Mexican cuisine, she loves to read, and she has two dogs.
 
If Mrs. Webb could go anywhere in the world it would be Ireland and Scotland. If she could have any superpower it would be the ability to make people instantly love reading, and her class theme would be "Don't Stop Believing" by Journey.

Ms. Daniel currently calls Murfreesboro home but hails from the great city of Florence, Alabama. Ms. Daniel loves to eat hibachi, be in the outdoors, and learn about animals.
 
If Ms. Daniel could have a superpower it would be eyes in the back of her head and if she could go any where in the world she would love to visit Israel.

For our first Harris Middle School Teacher Spotlight of February we want to shine our light on one of the hardest working women in our school, Mrs. Jennifer Rose!
 
Mrs. Rose is the lead teacher in our amazing English as a Second Language department. Mrs. Rose has been a member of the HMS family for many years and her husband serves as the head coach of our extremly successful girls soccer team.
 
Mrs. Rose works tirelessly to be the best person and teacher that she can be, has a great sense of humor, and is always willing to help our students, their families, and members of our staff.
 
If Mrs. Rose could have any superpower it would be to speak any language. If Mrs. Rose could travel anywhere in the world it would be to Australia. Mrs. Rose loves chicken and dark chocolate, but not together. Or so she says!

If Mrs. Hensel could have any superpower it would be to have more than one of herself. If she could travel anywhere Mrs. Hensel would travel to Europe. Mrs. Hensel would love to speak to Albert Einstein, enjoys British literature, and her classroom themesong would be Ring of Fire by Johnny Cash.

For our first Harris Middle School Teacher Spotlight of April, we shine our light on one of our amazing 6th grade Math teachers, Mrs. Meghan Bailey!
 
Mrs. Bailey has been at HMS for many years, serving as a math teacher in 6th grade, then 8th grade, and then back to 6th grade.
 
Mrs. Bailey loves to laugh but always knows when it is time to be serious and she is loved by her fellow staff and the students!
 
During her time at HMS she has helped in many different ways including coaching softball. Besides teaching 6th grade math this year she also serves at the team lead for 6th Grade Mini School B.
 
Mrs. Bailey is from Shelbyville, loves Mexcian food, and her hobbies include things like gardening, reading, and baking.
 
If Mrs. Bailey could have one superpower it would be the ability to communicate with everyone in her classroom.
 
If Mrs. Bailey could go anywhere in the world it would be on a cruise to visit all of the continents.
 
When it comes to advice from herself in the past, younger Mrs. Bailey would tell future Mrs. Bailey that failures in school as a student would go on to help her as a teacher.

For our second Harris Middle School Teacher Spotlight of April, we want to shine our light on our outstanding librarian, Mrs. Megan Lawell!
 
Mrs. Lawell is from Shelbyville, Tennessee and has been serving as our librarian for several years here at HMS. Mrs. Lawell always has a smile on her face and is beloved by our students and faculty. In addition to serving as our librarian, Mrs. Lawell also teaches Career Exploration and works with our HMS Student Council.
 
As a book enthusiast Mrs. Lawell was unable to select her favorite book or story :)
 
Among her many hobbies, Mrs. Lawell enjoys reading, embroidery, running, and many other activities.
 
Mrs. Lawell played muliple sports in school, including soccer and basketball. If Mrs. Lawell could travel anywhere it would be to Egypt.
 
The historical figure Mrs. Lawell would most like to meet is Jesus.
 
The favorite classroom quote of Mrs. Lawell is "Make the most of yourself for that is all there is of you."

For our next Harris Middle School Teacher Spotlight of April we want to shine our light on one of our wonderful related arts teachers at HMS, Ms. Lesleigh Blackburn!
 
Ms. Blackburn resides in Shelbyville, loves spaghetti, and currently teaches both Career Exploration and Introduction to Health Science.
 
Ms. Blackburn is known to many of our students as Coach Blackburn since she has helped coach multiple sports at HMS including boys soccer, boys basketball, girls basketball, and she will be helping with our HMS Cheerleaders during the 2025-2026 school year.
 
Ms. Blackburn loves being outdoors, reading, doing puzzles, and traveling.
 
When she was a student, Ms. Blackburn played soccer, basketball, and track.
 
If she could have any superpower for her classroom it would be to translate multiple languages.
 
Australia and Rome are at the top of the travel list for Ms. Blackburn, but she loves to travel so she feels that anywhere is an adventure.
 
Ms. Blackburn would select the song "Unwritten" by Natasha Beddingfield as her classroom theme song, and her teaching philosophy is "If you can dream it, you can do it" from the legendary Walt Disney.

For our second Harris Middle School Teacher Spotlight of the week we want to shine our light on one of our amazing front office workers, Ms. Sherry Lawell.
 
Ms. Sherry calls Shelbyville her home.
 
When it comes to cuisine Ms. Sherry enjoys streak, pizza, and shrimp.
 
Ms. Sherry has a cat named Demelza and she currently serves as a secretary here at HMS.
 
Ms. Sherry can always be counted on to greet you with a warm "Good morning" each day when you first see her, she is a geniuenly caring and loving indivdual, and HMS is blessed to have her representing us each and every day at our front desk.
 
Ms. Sherry was a majorette in school, loved reading and home economics, and her philosophy is don't sweat the small stuff.
 
If Ms. Sherry could have a superpower it would be to become a human lie detector. Greece is her dream travel destination, and if she could meet anyone it would be Jesus.
 
Let's hear it for Ms. Sherry Lawell as she enjoys her time in the HMS Teacher Spotlight.

Siempre se puede contar con la Sra. Sherry para saludarlos con un cálido "Buenos días" cada día. Es una persona genuinamente cariñosa y amorosa, y en HMS tenemos la suerte de tenerla representándonos a diario en la recepción.
 
La Sra. Sherry era majorette en la escuela, le encantaba leer y la economía doméstica, y su filosofía es no preocuparse por las cosas pequeñas.
