Harris Middle School (HMS) is proud to welcome Assistant Principal Jake Tyre, who brings a wide range of educational, athletic and military leadership experience to our school community. Tyre will serve as assistant principal for HMS eighth-grade students.

Tyre comes to HMS after serving as dean of students at Community High School, where he oversaw attendance, discipline, ILP-D, EWS, teacher evaluations, parent communication and school operations while also pitching in as a bus driver and football coach. Before that, he served at Cascade High and Cascade Middle as a strength and conditioning teacher, head football coach, head track and field coach, athletic director and assistant coach in both softball and basketball.

He holds a Bachelor of Science in Physical Education from Middle Tennessee State University and an Master of Science in Educational Leadership from Arkansas State University. Prior to his career in education, Tyre served in the U.S. Army National Guard from 2002–2014 as a Sergeant (E-5), completing a deployment to Iraq and earning multiple commendations.

At home, he and his wife Angela live on their family farm in Fosterville, where they raise beef cattle with their daughter, Mara.

Tyre’s philosophy is rooted in growth, structure, and strong relationships. “Education is about growth—academic, personal, and relational,” he shared. “Every student deserves a safe and structured environment where expectations are clear, and adults are consistently supportive.”

Throughout his career, he has strengthened school procedures, supported teachers through meaningful feedback, built successful athletic programs, and fostered positive school culture through daily visibility and mentorship. He credits much of his leadership approach to lessons learned during his military service—teamwork, consistency, and servant leadership.

Looking ahead, Tyre says he’s most excited to deepen relationships and help build systems that keep students supported and schools running smoothly. “I look forward to helping students overcome barriers, supporting teachers in their work, and contributing to a positive, unified school culture,” he said.

When asked what makes Bedford County Schools special, Tyre didn’t hesitate: “Our people care. Our teachers work hard, our families are involved, and our students bring energy and purpose to everything we do.”

Tyre says he is grateful for the opportunity to serve HMS and plans to stay visible in hallways, classrooms, athletic fields, and the community. “Every student deserves a champion, and I am committed to helping them succeed, grow, and prepare for life,” he said.
