🏆 HMS Sports Weekly Recap | August 24–28 🏆
Hello and happy Friday to all of our #HarrisMiddleSchool family and friends! 🦅💙💛
While most of our students were enjoying Horse Show Break, a couple of our HMS teams were still putting in the work! Our Football and Volleyball teams were both in action this week, giving us plenty to cheer about.
So, let’s turn on EagleVision 👀🦅 and take a look back at the week that was in #HMS Sports!
🏈 TUESDAY | FOOTBALL
The Harris Middle School Football team hit the road Tuesday night and came away with a big 34–20 victory over Bridgeforth, earning their second straight win!
And a big congratulations to our Players of the Game! 👏
⭐ Offense: LeCurtis Garmon
⭐ Defense: Jordan Locke
Following the victory, Coach Stepfon Ransom reflected on what his team learned:
“The biggest thing that we learned last night in a 34–20 win was all three phases have to be complete in order for us to play our best football, so through victory we also had some very teachable moments. But I’m extremely proud of the growth we are showing.”
That growth is showing, Eagles!
🏐 TUESDAY | VOLLEYBALL
Also on Tuesday, HMS Volleyball traveled to Tullahoma. Both the Junior Varsity and Varsity squads played hard and battled throughout the night, but both teams came up just short, falling 2 sets to 0.
🏐 THURSDAY | VOLLEYBALL
The Eaglettes were back home Thursday, hosting Lewisburg—and walked off the court with a pair of victories! 🎉
Both Junior Varsity and Varsity put together another fantastic night on the court, with each squad earning 2 sets to 0 victories! 💙💛
🦅 THAT'S A WRAP!
It may have been a shorter week of competition because of Horse Show Break, but our student-athletes who took the field and court continued to give it everything they had.
Enjoy the remainder of Horse Show Break, #HMS Family and Friends! We’ll be back in action on Tuesday and ready to Soar Above the Rest!
#HarrisMiddleSchool #HMSSports #EagleVision #SoarAboveTheRest 🦅💙💛

#HMS Picture Day will be on Wednesday, September 9, 2026. Retakes will take place for those that miss that day or need a picture retaken on Tuesday, October 6, 2026.
Those getting their pictures taken are asked to please not wear green since a green screen will be used to take the pictures.

• Design a handmade item and create a business proposal and budget
• Develop a family-history timeline using positive and negative numbers
• Build a model of an obstacle course while calculating changes in elevation
• Create an exercise video that demonstrates and explains integer operations
Each project challenged students to use mathematical reasoning, problem-solving, creativity, and communication. Students were expected not only to calculate accurately but also to explain how the mathematics connected naturally to their chosen project.
We are proud of the hard work, imagination, and mathematical thinking our students demonstrated. Learning truly comes to life when students can connect classroom concepts to authentic situations!
-Thank you to Mrs. Breedlove for sharing this information and the photos!

There’s just something special about an entire school taking a few moments to get lost in a good book!
A HUGE thank you to 6th Grade Assistant Principal Ruth Cepeda for sharing these great photos of our students and staff enjoying some of our Oh D.E.A.R. time!
Keep reading, Eagles! Every page is another opportunity to #SoarAboveTheRest!

🎸 Turning a Grant Into New Opportunities Through Music 🎶
A $2,200 Teacher Grant - a result of funds raised through the #CC5K - is helping Chase King, Music Teacher at #HarrisMiddleSchool, bring his project, “Strum, Strive, & Succeed: Cultivating a Growth Mindset Through Music,” to life. 🎶
With the grant, Mr. King purchased 25 acoustic guitars, stands, replacement strings and 100 guitar picks, giving #students the opportunity to experience music in a hands-on way while developing new skills, building confidence and learning the value of practice and perseverance. 🎸✨
Guitar also provides students with another meaningful entry point into music education, especially for those who may not connect with traditional band or theory-focused lessons. As students develop their skills, the program is helping build interest and a foundation for the guitar program at #ShelbyvilleCentralHighSchool.
For Mr. King, creating these opportunities for students is at the heart of the program. “I'm passionate about giving every student the chance to experience the joy and academic benefits of making music, and this guitar program is helping me do exactly that!”
Through this grant, one classroom has gained more than just new instruments. It has gained new opportunities for students to learn, grow and discover the joy of making music. ❤️🎶

HOW ABOUT THOSE EAGLES?! 🦅🔥
Harris Middle Football picked up its first win of the season, defeating Coffee County 32–6 at home!
The defense was flying around the ball all night, while the offense leaned on a strong running game to power the Eagles to victory.

“The win was perfect timing for something we have been working for, and we are still stacking days to continue to improve our daily habits.”
🏆 Players of the Game
💥 Lecurtis Garmon — aka “The Tackling Machine”
