🌟 Why Does Pre-K Matter? 🌟
Going to a structured pre-K program helps children succeed in school long term. 🧠It builds strong early reading and math skills, improves focus and self-control and increases the chances of graduating from high school. Children also learn important social and emotional skills such as managing their emotions, showing empathy and following classroom rules and routines.📚

📞 For more information, call the Central Office at 931-684-3284 and ask for Kim Joyce.

🌟 Give your child a great start toward a bright future!

Recently, HMS/SCHS GEAR UP sponsored a Blood Drive at Shelbyville Central High School,

Freshmen from the SCHS Phlebotomy class shadowed workers from the Red Cross during the event. The students also handed out snacks and made sure everyone was being cared for as needed.

17 donors, including 9 Type O donors and 7 first time donors, led to 18 units of blood being taken.

Thank you to all who helped in participating to make this event a success. #HMS #HarrisMiddleSchool #SoarAboveTheRest

Working in education can sometimes be a challenging and often underappreciated job, but each year #HarrisMiddleSchool recognizes teachers and staff members who have reached milestones in years of service at #HMS. These awards serve as a small token of appreciation and a reminder of all they have accomplished during their time at Harris Middle School.

This year, the following staff members were recognized for five years of service at Harris Middle School: Mr. Todd, Mrs. Webb, Mrs. Stallings, Coach Evans, Mr. Paul, and Dr. Stewart.

The 10 years of service award was presented to Mrs. Bowman.

The 15 years of service award was presented to Mrs. Sybil.

Thank you to each of you for the time, love, dedication, and attention you have poured into Harris Middle School. Thank you for showing all of us what it means to #SoarAboveTheRest.

Recently, under the expert guidance of Mr. Crowe and Mrs. Fisher, 8th grade students at #HarrisMiddleSchool engaged in an interdisciplinary exploration that combined literature with hands-on scientific inquiry. The project included the following components:

Literary Engagement:
#HMS Students read selected excerpts from The Martian to stimulate critical thinking and explore themes related to space exploration and sustainability.

Math Engagement:
In math class (Ms. Melton and Mrs. Taylor) students had to make a brochure making their own planet. Students made Zeeek the alien and had to show their alien around Shelbyville and honed in on 9 standards.

Practical Experimentation:
Hands-on activities included planting potato plants and monitoring their growth, simulating the challenges of cultivating food in extraterrestrial environments.

Innovative Engineering:
Students designed and constructed student-made "space probes," which were then put to the test. The Shelbyville Electric Department graciously conducted a drop test to assess whether the payload would survive the impact.

Community Partnership:
We extend our gratitude to the Shelbyville-Bedford Partnership for their generous contribution in providing the novels used in this project, greatly enhancing the educational experience.

This comprehensive project not only enriched students' understanding of science and engineering principles but also highlighted the importance of community collaboration in education.
