HMS Sports Weekly Recap | August 10-14
Hello and happy Friday to all of our #HarrisMiddleSchool family and friends! Let’s turn on our EagleVision and see how our #HMS teams did this week! 👀🦅
🏐 HMS Volleyball got the week started Monday with both the Varsity and Junior Varsity teams picking up 2-0 victories over Lewisburg Middle!
⚽ HMS Girls Soccer was also victorious Monday as they traveled to E.O. Coffman and came home with a 5-0 win. Yaretzi Sanchez assisted Emily Grijalva for a goal, while Lily Ward assisted Anabely Francisco on another. The Peacock Sisters then added three more goals, with Sydney scoring twice and Macey scoring once. Gaby Reyes kept the back of the net clean as the Eaglettes shut down the competition!
🏈 HMS Football was on the gridiron Tuesday night as they traveled to Lawrenceburg to face E.O. Coffman. Coach Ransom had this to say about the game:
"The game was a breath of fresh air knowing we got better, we came out battle tested, and where in a lot of good game scenarios, but the work we are putting in is allowing us to see results and improvements across the board. As long as we keep stacking good days and buying into the standard, we will see the results we want."
Our Players of the Game were Zaden Sanders, Offensive Player of the Game, and Javion Baugh, Defensive Player of the Game! 👏
🏐 HMS Volleyball was back on the road Thursday night as our third HMS team this week to face E.O. Coffman. The Junior Varsity team fell 2-1, while the Varsity team lost in straight sets.
There were ups, there were downs, but through it all, our student athletes continued to aim high and give their best every time they put on the HMS uniform. That’s what being an Eagle is all about! 🦅

🏫💬 Another Night of Conversation, Questions & Looking Ahead
Last night, families and community members gathered at #LibertySchool for another Town Hall with Superintendent Tim Harwell. He shared more about his background and experience, discussed the importance of public schools and serving our #students, and shared his vision for the future of #BedfordCountySchools.
🎯 Three key goals were highlighted:
📚 Increase early literacy so students are reading on grade level by 3rd grade;
📈 Improve academic performance in middle schools;
🎓 Expand CTE and dual enrollment opportunities to strengthen college and career readiness.
The conversation also included questions about faith-based items in schools, future growth and a future high school near Liberty School, along with discussions about the district’s budget and planning for the future.
Most importantly, these Town Halls are providing an opportunity for families and community members to ask questions, share their perspectives and be part of the conversation about the future of our schools.

Start Strong Family Night is a great opportunity to connect with organizations that support the health and well-being of Bedford County Schools students and families.
The Tennessee Department of Health will be sharing oral health resources, educational materials and goodie bags filled with items like toothbrushes, toothpaste, floss and timers. They will also be available to answer questions about oral health, oral hygiene and the SBDPP sealant program.
The Center for Family Development will be raffling off a sleeve of diapers (size 1–7) for parents who stop by their table and learn more about the resources they provide.
Need required Tennessee school vaccinations? The Health Department will be available during Start Strong Family Night to provide required vaccines for Pre-K, Kindergarten, 7th grade and any other #students who still need required immunizations.
