💙📚 Empowering Families, Supporting Student Success! 📚💙

Recently, an ESL Parent Conference was held at #CommunityElementarySchool, bringing families together to learn more about their children’s ELPA21 scores and discover ways to support continued English language growth.🌟

Families received helpful resources to take home, including practice sentences, learning materials and information about upcoming opportunities for parents and #students. 📖📝

Most importantly, the event highlighted the power of family involvement. We are grateful to the ESL parents who took the time to attend, learn, ask questions and play an active role in their children’s education. Their support makes a meaningful difference! 💙

A special #ThankYou goes to Dunkin’ Donuts for generously providing coffee and donuts ☕🍩 and to Mrs. Kathy Reed, Elementary Instructional & ESL Supervisor, for joining the event and supporting our families.

When schools and families work together, students have even more opportunities to grow, thrive and succeed! 🌎✨

HMS Sports Weekly Recap | August 17-21

Hello and happy Friday to all of our #HarrisMiddleSchool family and friends! The third week of August was a busy one for #HMS Sports, so let's take a look back at the week that was in HMS Sports!

Monday

HMS Volleyball defeated Whitthorne, with Varsity winning 2 sets to 0 and JV winning 2 sets to 1.

Wednesday

HMS Cross Country made the LONG trip to Community High School. Ky'Zariah Wiley finished 16th out of 30 runners, while Leon Silva finished 14th out of 70 and Jovani Reyes finished 15th out of 70. Braxton Simpson rounded out the HMS runners with a 17th-place finish out of 70.

And congratulations to Leon, who was also voted as the 6th Grade HMS Student of the Week!

Thursday

Two different HMS teams were in action on Thursday night.

HMS Football was on the road again, this time facing off with Gladeville. Our young men gave it their all in a 30-24 loss. HMS was leading deep into the 4th quarter, but Gladeville crossed the goal line for a game-winning touchdown with only 22 seconds remaining in the game.

Coach Ransom had this to say following Thursday night's game:

"We are becoming more understanding of who we are as a team and finding different ways we can affect the game. I believe if we minimize mistakes and do the really small things good, we will be a team to reckon with for the remainder of the year."

HMS Volleyball was also at home on Thursday, and both the Varsity and JV teams came away with 2-set-to-0 victories.

Coach Mason had this to say:

"Shoutout to Naila Allen for serving 9 serves in a row, bringing our JV team to a win. As for my varsity team, I am beyond proud of them. Their communication, passing, serving, movement, coverage, and overall effort were a huge improvement. They trusted each other, fought for every ball, and continued to play through mistakes instead of letting them get in their heads. They came out with so much more confidence, energy, and determination, and it was so good to see the things we've been working on in practice actually show up on the court."

Friday

HMS Girls Soccer will be in action tonight at home, starting at 5 PM at Shelbyville Central High School. Coach Castorena will be looking for her first win since her wedding last weekend as the Eaglettes take on Franklin County.

Since SCHS will be playing Tullahoma tonight in the SCHS Football Stadium, the girls soccer game will take place at the SCHS Soccer Field near the SCHS Gym.

With a large turnout expected for the first football game of the year for SCHS, you might want to consider parking at HMS and walking over to the soccer game.

That's the week that was in HMS Sports! Our teams will be back in action next week, and we'll be back with a preview of the week ahead on Monday.

Have an amazing weekend, HMS Family, and we hope you all #SoarAboveTheRest!
