Recently, Bedford County Schools school counselors, Community in Schools partners, administrators, and our SEL & Mental Health Supervisor came together at the School Counselor and Administrators Leadership Institute (SCALI) to learn, grow and connect. 💼✨🤝
This year’s theme, Passion, Purpose, Position!, encouraged participants to reflect on the important role they play in supporting #students and strengthening school communities.
Throughout SCALI, participants explored critical topics including trauma, mental health support, behavior intervention strategies, collaboration and more. These professional learning opportunities provide valuable tools and insights to help our team respond to #student needs and create supportive learning environments. 🧠🌱🏫
#CommunityHighSchool Counselor Jordan Tatom also led a professional development session, Defined by Law, Guided by Ethics: Maximizing the School Counselor Role, sharing his expertise with fellow school counselors and administrators.

📚✨ Oh D.E.A.R.! It’s Time to Stop and Read!
This school year, students at Harris Middle School are making time for something that matters: reading! Through Oh D.E.A.R. (Drop Everything And Read), students pause what they’re doing at that time and spend time reading.
Taking time to read each week is helping emphasize the importance of literacy and the many ways reading supports #students both in and out of the classroom. 📖
Bonus: Bridge Bedford and Communications Director Carol Garrette were invited to take part in the celebrations, sharing rewards with students for their focused reading.
And the love of reading doesn’t have to stop at school! Families can help build strong readers by making time for reading at home, talking about what they’re reading and showing students that reading is something worth making time for.

🏆 **HMS SPORTS WEEKLY PREVIEW | SEPTEMBER 28–OCTOBER 2** 🦅
Happy Monday, #HarrisMiddleSchool Family and Friends! 💙💛
After an exciting **Fall Homecoming Week** last week, things are getting somewhat back to normal around #HMS—but there is still plenty happening in the world of **HMS Sports!**
Before we look ahead, let’s take one more look at the action from this past weekend.
⚽ **EAGLETTES FINISH 2ND IN DISTRICT TOURNAMENT**
On Saturday afternoon, our HMS Girls Soccer team took the field at **The Nest at Shelbyville Central High School** for the District Championship Game.
Unfortunately, our Eaglettes fell to Franklin County, 3–1, with **Sydney Peacock** scoring the lone goal for HMS.
While the championship game didn’t go our way, the Eaglettes had an absolutely tremendous season! The team finished with an **undefeated regular season**, captured the **regular-season district championship**, and finished **2nd in the district tournament**.
A huge congratulations to **Coach Castorena** on an outstanding first season leading our girls, and congratulations to all of our Eaglettes on an incredible season! 🦅⚽💙💛
🎾 **EAGLES MAKE THEIR MARK AT STATE**
Also on Saturday, the HMS Boys Tennis Team traveled to Murfreesboro to compete in the state tournament—and our Eagles had quite a day!
HMS opened the tournament with impressive **3–0 victories over E.O. Coffman and Page**. Page entered the tournament as the reigning co-ed state champions, making that victory an especially big one for our Eagles!
HMS then faced reigning state champion Collierville, falling 1–2 in a hard-fought match.
The Eagles finished the day with an impressive **3–1 overall record**!
Along the way, HMS defeated schools that may be bigger than we are—but **not better!** 💪🦅
For the day, **Brooks Bobo, Brison Sims, and Thinson Ha** each finished 3–1 in their doubles matches.
Congratulations to **Coach Russell** and all of our Eagles who represented HMS at the state tournament! 🎾💙💛
Now, as September comes to a close and October begins, there is plenty of action ahead. So, let’s turn on **EagleVision** and take a look at what’s coming up this week!

🦅💙💛 **HMS STAFF APPRECIATION | RENAISSANCE STYLE!** 💛💙🦅
On Friday, the **#HarrisMiddleSchool Renaissance School Culture Committee** outdid themselves once again, helping our #HMS staff wrap up an action-packed **Football Homecoming Week** with a day full of fun, surprises, and delicious treats!
🍎 **A Sweet Start to the Day**
To start the morning, our staff were greeted with **amazing homemade apple walnut muffins** waiting for them as they arrived at school. Nothing says “Good morning!” quite like a warm muffin! 😋
🍂 **The Leaves Are Falling!**
Later that morning, the fun really began! Each staff member received a tiny leaf, and throughout the morning, staff members had to keep their eyes—and ears—open. When two staff members saw each other, the first person to say **“The leaves are falling!”** collected any leaves the other person was holding.
The staff member with the most leaves at the end of the game would win a **$50 S’mores Night prize**, generously donated by **Jessi White of Coldwell Banker Southern Realty**!
Congratulations to our winners, **Zoey Pride and her helper, Gracie Peterson!** 🍂🏆
🍏 **Caramel Apple Bar**
To cap off the day, staff members enjoyed a delicious **caramel apple bar** during lunch! Red and green apples, homemade caramel sauce, and a variety of toppings made for a fantastic afternoon treat. 🍎🍏🍯
A **HUGE THANK YOU** goes out to our incredible **Harris Middle School Renaissance School Culture Committee** for putting so much time and effort into creating a fun and memorable day for our staff!
